Erasmus Mundus GLODEP Scholarship 2027: How Nigerians and African Graduates Can Apply

Would you like to earn a master's degree while studying at universities in the Czech Republic, France and Germany? The Erasmus Mundus GLODEP programme offers a valuable scholarship opportunity for graduates interested in international development and economic policy.

For many talented students in Nigeria and across Africa, the biggest barrier to studying abroad is not a lack of ambition or academic ability. It is the cost.

International tuition fees, accommodation, travel and living expenses can put postgraduate education beyond the reach of otherwise qualified applicants.

The Global Development Policy (GLODEP) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme offers an opportunity to study across three European countries, with competitive scholarships available for the 2027–2029 intake.

Applications for scholarship consideration open on 5 November 2026 and close on 31 January 2027.

This Beeva Pathways guide explains who can apply, the scholarship benefits, required documents, application process and how to improve your chances of selection.

1. What Is the GLODEP Erasmus Mundus Programme?

GLODEP stands for Global Development Policy.

It is an international master's programme designed for students interested in understanding development challenges and creating effective economic and social policies.

The programme is delivered through a consortium of three European universities:

  • Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic.
  • Université Clermont Auvergne, France.
  • University of Göttingen, Germany.

Students gain exposure to different academic environments, international perspectives and approaches to development policy.

The programme is particularly relevant to individuals who want careers in international development, research, government, policy analysis, development organisations and related fields.

2. What Funding Is Available?

There are two important scholarship categories.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship provides:

  • Tuition fees paid directly to the consortium.
  • A monthly allowance of €1,400.
  • Health insurance meeting Erasmus Mundus requirements.
  • Student support during the programme.

The monthly allowance contributes towards accommodation, travel, visa, relocation and other living expenses.

Over 24 months, €1,400 per month amounts to €33,600 in allowance payments, subject to the scholarship's applicable conditions.

GLODEP Scholarship

The consortium also advertises a GLODEP scholarship covering:

  • Tuition fee waiver.
  • Health insurance.
  • Student support.

However, the GLODEP scholarship does not advertise the same €1,400 monthly allowance.

This distinction is important. Applicants should not assume that every scholarship offered by the programme provides complete living-cost funding.

Scholarships are competitive, limited and not guaranteed.

3. Can Nigerians and Other African Students Apply?

Yes. GLODEP considers applications from candidates around the world, including eligible Nigerian and other African graduates.

However, nationality alone does not determine admission.

The programme is academically demanding and places particular emphasis on applicants' preparation in economics and related fields.

Its published requirements include:

  • A recognised bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 60 ECTS credits, or an equivalent amount of undergraduate study, in economics.
  • Strong academic performance, generally equivalent to at least a 2.7/4.0 American GPA.
  • Demonstrated interest in international development and development policy.
  • Strong English-language proficiency at approximately C1 level.
  • Complete and valid supporting documents.

Applicants with degrees in economics, development studies, geography, international relations, sociology and related fields may find the programme especially relevant.

Graduates from other disciplines may also be considered where their academic preparation, economics coursework and relevant experience demonstrate a strong fit.

Important: Applicants should check the economics-credit requirement carefully before paying an application fee. A degree title alone does not prove eligibility.

4. What Are the English-Language Requirements?

GLODEP requires strong English proficiency.

Its published accepted evidence includes:

  • IELTS: minimum overall score of 7.0.
  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 95.
  • TOEFL paper-based: minimum score of 577.
  • TOEIC: minimum score of 945.
  • Accepted Cambridge English qualifications meeting the published minimum.
  • A degree certificate or official Medium of Instruction letter confirming that previous studies were taught in English.

Native English speakers may use the programme's prescribed Declaration of Honour where applicable.

This is particularly useful for some Nigerian applicants who completed their university education in English.

However, applicants should not assume that nationality automatically grants an exemption. They must provide the evidence required by GLODEP.

5. Documents Required for the Application

The current GLODEP application requirements specify six principal documents.

1. Academic degree certificate

Provide a scanned copy of your completed university qualification.

If you have not yet graduated, the programme provides instructions for submitting a Declaration of Honour stating when your degree is expected.

2. Academic transcripts

Submit complete transcripts showing your university courses and academic results.

3. Proof of English proficiency

Upload an accepted test result, Medium of Instruction evidence or other permitted documentation.

4. Curriculum vitae

GLODEP requires a Europass-format CV, with a maximum length of three A4 pages.

5. Motivation letter

Your motivation letter must not exceed 500 words.

It should focus on your academic interests, suitability for GLODEP and what you hope to achieve through the programme.

6. International passport

Provide a copy of the passport identification page.

The programme advises that passports should remain valid until at least September 2029 because students may need to complete visa procedures in multiple countries.

Documents must be submitted in the specified PDF format and meet the programme's language and translation requirements.

6. How to Apply for the GLODEP Scholarship

Step 1: Visit the official programme website

Open:

https://glodep.eu/admission/criteria-and-requirements/

Read the latest eligibility criteria before proceeding.

Step 2: Check your economics background

Review your undergraduate transcript to determine whether you have the required equivalent of 60 ECTS in economics.

If your eligibility is uncertain, contact the programme before making any non-refundable payment.

Step 3: Prepare your academic documents

Collect your certificate, transcripts, passport and English-language evidence.

Step 4: Prepare your Europass CV

Use the required Europass format.

Emphasise relevant academic work, research, internships, leadership and professional experience.

Step 5: Write your motivation letter

Explain why you want to study global development policy and how the degree connects to your future career.

Step 6: Submit through the official application portal

The application system opens on 5 November 2026.

Access it through the GLODEP website or Palacký University's official application portal.

Step 7: Complete the application and any required payment

Follow the current portal instructions for submitting your documents and paying the applicable administrative fee.

Step 8: Apply before 31 January 2027

Only applicants in the first application round are considered for the advertised scholarship opportunities.

Step 9: Prepare for a possible interview

Top-ranked admitted applicants may be invited to an online scholarship interview.

The interview can assess academic merit, motivation, language skills and knowledge of basic economic concepts.

7. Seven Ways to Strengthen Your Application

1. Demonstrate strong economics knowledge.

Review basic economic principles, development economics and the role of economic policy in addressing social challenges.

2. Show evidence of academic excellence.

Use your transcript, dissertation, research projects and relevant coursework to demonstrate your academic preparation.

3. Connect your goals to African development challenges.

For example, discuss agricultural productivity, unemployment, poverty reduction, infrastructure, education or public-sector effectiveness.

Explain why the challenge matters and how you intend to contribute to solutions.

4. Write a focused motivation letter.

With a maximum of 500 words, every sentence matters.

Avoid repeating your CV or filling the letter with generic praise for European universities.

5. Use the correct Europass CV format.

The consortium specifically requires Europass. Submitting a different CV format may affect your application.

6. Prepare for the scholarship interview.

Practise explaining your academic interests, career goals and basic economic concepts in clear English.

7. Submit a complete application early.

Check every document before submission and leave enough time to resolve technical or payment problems.

8. How Competitive Is the Scholarship?

GLODEP reports receiving several hundred applications annually.

Its published FAQ indicates that approximately 750 applications may be received, with around 25 students admitted per intake.

Admission itself is therefore highly competitive, and scholarship selection is an additional competitive process.

Applicants should apply only when their qualifications and interests align meaningfully with the programme.

9. Important Application Dates

Scholarship applications open: 5 November 2026.

Scholarship application deadline: 31 January 2027.

Second application round: 1 February–15 March 2027, for self-funded applicants only.

Admission results: Expected in the second half of March 2027.

Scholarship interviews: Expected in the first half of April 2027.

Scholarship decisions: Expected in the second half of April 2027.

Programme commencement: Expected in September 2027.

The consortium notes that its admission calendar may change.

10. Is the Application Free?

Do not assume the GLODEP application is free.

The programme has published a compulsory administrative application fee in its admissions information.

Check the current amount and payment instructions in the official portal before submitting your application.

Only make payments through the university's authorised application system.

Never pay an individual who promises guaranteed admission or scholarship selection.

11. Common Mistakes to Avoid

Applicants should avoid:

  • Ignoring the economics-credit requirement.
  • Applying without adequate English-language evidence.
  • Submitting a non-Europass CV.
  • Exceeding the 500-word motivation-letter limit.
  • Using an expired or insufficiently valid passport.
  • Submitting incomplete or unreadable documents.
  • Confusing the self-funded application deadline with the scholarship deadline.
  • Assuming admission guarantees a scholarship.
